Record Labels
Record labels are companies that produce and distribute a variety of recorded music and promote there artists through various ways to the public such as the control of the production, , marketing, promotion, and the enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos of their artists that are assigned to their label. Within the music industry, most recording artists have become increasingly reliant upon record labels to broaden their consumer base, market their albums, and be both promoted them within the music industry. There are two kinds of record labels independent and major record labels.
Major Labels

Major labels is a record label which is dominant in the music industry that is part of a large international media group, with owning 75% of the world’s music. Since 2012 there are 3 major record labels, Sony music entertainment, and universal and warner music group. Major labels are a well-financed company, with large budgets to invest into music, therefore there are more able to distribute and market their artists
Warner Music Group began as a branch of a movie studio, Warner Bros movie studio began the label in 1958 as a way to release the soundtracks from their films. The timing for starting a music label was good because of the increasing popularity of rock’n’roll music and pop music, therefore it didn’t take long for warner record label to grow. The late 1960s and early 1970s were hugely important time for warner music group because in 1968 they acquired Atlantic Records, which at that time was well-known for its jazz and R&B. once again warner expanded buying Elektra records and in 1987, merged with the Time corporation, therefore forming a powerful media bond with Time warner, although in 2003 Time warner sold Warner music for $2.3 billion. Nowadays Warner Music Group owns or partially owns or distributes some of the world’s best known record labels, such as Atlantic Records and Roadrunner Records.
