Digipac Anaylsis 2

Selena Gomez Digipac

The colour pallet used on the front cover on the album of the pastel shades and tones of pink, white and cream, is used effectively to attract her chosen target audience, of the female sex between the ages of 10-18. It also emphasis and compliments her feminine aspects of being gentle, graceful however enhancing her beauty and gracefulness. The image of the artist placed on the front cover, is using direct address to the audience through her body language and her eyes, which place a personal attachment between the audience and the artist herself. The font of the title “Selena Gomez & the Scene- a Year without Rain Deluxe Edition” is simplistic with a sense of emotion and meaning behind the title, from this it is appeling to the eye with the edgy cut font ,perhaps reflects the songs on her album. The printed font of “Deluxe edition” is a very useful marketing convention on a digipac , in order to entice the audience, especially a well devoted fan to purchase the album as it suggests there are extra features placed within the album other than her music. On the back cover of Selena Gomez’s digipac it is an enlarged image of Selena from her exclusive music video, again this is giving the audience a personal insight of her music without them purchasing the album, this is a very professional marketing technique to lure her audience member’s into purchasing the album. There is also continuity within the digipac between the photos used in the album, although they are taken within different locations and costumes, the style of the image and the editing aspect of the lighting and effects are simple to very much the same, allowing Selena’s album to flow and link. The audience are also shown what is included in this deluxe edition, such as dvd of behind the scene, music videos as well as stated the bonus tracks in bold italic font to engage the audience. The back cover also shows the audience the record label the artists is signed to , this is necessary to an album as it gives publicity to the record company, it also allows the audience to recognise the style of genre music the artist is assigned to.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               The spine of the digipac, is imprinted with the product code of the album which allows the outlets to stock each album easily. The name of the artist is shown on the spine filling up the majority of the space in capital letters, again to appeal to the target audience and other members of the public.

The inside planes of the album has 3 compartments the 1st is where the cd’s/dvd’s are stored they are both in different colours which allows the audience to distinguish them from one another. This particular album has a plane dedicated to a special thank you as well as having the lyrics printed inside the album, this allows the consumer to really look into the lyrics of particular songs. These strategies are optional not all artists decide to do this layout within their album.

Digipac Anaylsis

Taylor Swift Digipac

The title of the album is “Red” and so the colour is boldly featured on the cover. The “Taylor Swift” has been adjusted and changed from her previous albums. The bold capitalisation is more of a statement and suggests that she is a new Taylor, this works well and is published well to show her target audience that she has changed her style and appearance as an artist. The colour red is only used for the title, therefore makes it significant to the title and instantly draws the attention of the audience. The rest of colour pallet is very simple again in keeping with the image chosen for the front cover. It could also convey that the artist is showing a more natural, heartfelt image of herself to her fans to engross with a different style of music.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           The shadowed tone of lighting covering the top half of “Taylor Swifts” implies a sense of mystery and hidden side to the artist, however the dark lighted tone to the image , extenuates the bright shade of red, emphasising her beauty and seductive side as a women. The album is using direct address to the target audience, however the body language of the artist still manages to appeal her audience in a less dominant way. The image used is very humble and modest, rather than her usual style of her previous albums which are much more glamourous. Taylor swift is one of many artists who chose to be the focus of her own music albums , is may be due to the fact her agency wanting to promote her as a singer , as well as being an icon in the music industry , therefore she wants her target audience to easily purchase and spot products of hers.                                                                                                  The cover of her album communicates the genre as this is a new concept for her album covers as it shows her maturity and a new direction for her identity and music. It is sleek and mature which will be reflected in the music

A different image is used on the back cover of the album which is slightly more direct than the front cover, so consequently it’s engaging and appealing to its target audience in a more forceful way. The text is block, clear and simple however it works because it’s put on a slightly harsh background of darker colours than the font, therefore the text is brought out and enhance to the audience, although still keeping a professional outlook of the digipac. The digipac has all the main conventions which are seen on albums such as bar code and copyright text and logo, which are all placed in a way that you are still eligible to read it however not standing out and taking the main focus away from the artist herself.
